June Is...
June is one of my favorite months. It signals the beginning of the summer season – for many of us that means the beginning of “summer hibernation” in anticipation of the impending 100+ degree days. Be sure you’re prepared with plenty of sunscreen, lots of water and other hydrating liquids, and plenty of cool places to enjoy whatever you do.
And of, course, there’s Father’s Day! As a very contented, proud father of three, June is a special family month. It 's the beginning of summer vacation: our oldest is home from the University of Arizona, and the other two have completed their school year. This means lots of family activities – BBQs, the pool, early morning golf, and our annual trip to our "local beach" at Rocky Point in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico. Meanwhile the evenings are still cool and so is the pool!
But in noodling around the Internet I also found out June is National Dairy Month, Turkey Lovers Month, National Papaya Month, National Seafood Month, National Iced Tea Month, National Beef Steak Month, National Frozen Yogurt Month, National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month, Great Outdoors Month, National Candy Month, National Soul Food Month, National Steakhouse Month, and Lemon & Mango Month.
I don’t see anything there that wouldn’t please almost any father – or grandfather – any day of the year, but how wonderful to see them all congregated in the same month! Check the Prime Times calendar for excellent opportunities to enjoy some steak for Father’s Day, take part in many terrific outdoor activities, and shop a farmer’s market for great fruit and vegetables. And be sure to drop by Frio MIO for some outstanding frozen yogurt – it’s great anytime, but for sure a delicious way to celebrate this month.
Finally, looking ahead to the 4th of July -- or for all of you who also enjoy barbecuing any time -- our favorite humorist, Ernie Witham, explains why “It’s All Neanderthal Man’s Fault.”
Stay cool, stay hydrated, stay well – and enjoy June.
Sincerely,
David Nadjafi
