Letter from the Publisher
No doubt you’ve noticed it’s hot! Of course, that’s normal for Arizona, but it’s EXTRA hot so it must be July. Hope you’re finding someplace cool and calm to enjoy this month’s edition of Prime Times. We’ve got cool columns, cold food, air-conditioned casino advice and plenty of ways to keep fit while staying indoors.
Speaking of fit, I’ve reunited with Robert Leasure at Spartan Fitness who I’ve enjoyed working with before. I’m already starting to see some great results with a high protein/no carb diet, cooking with and taking coconut oil, and working out in twice-weekly fitness training. See his informative article on MCT oil on page 15.
Since July is the month to celebrate our country’s independence, I’d also like to think about our own personal independence.
Staying healthy and fit is one of the first steps to maintaining our independence as we age. Various age-related infirmities, chronic health conditions, and isolation can all chip away at the personal independence we’ve cherished through the years. Isolation can be one of the most insidious factors.
We need community – friends and family and neighbors – who encourage and support and celebrate who we are and what we do.
I’m personally looking forward to my annual “highway freedom” fun – 10 days with BUDS, Boys Until Death, or in our case a bunch of good old boys – enjoying the Sturgis motorcycle rally in South Dakota.
Lots of protein available up there in bison country, and coconut oil travels well so I can stay motivated and well-nourished in the midst of all the revelry!
Meanwhile, in addition to whatever you most enjoy, stay out of the heat, keep fit and hang around with your friends. It’s the cool thing to do.
Sincerely,
David Nadjafi
